First Day of School - First Grade - My Big Boy Liam

I know, I know! This post has been a long time coming.

We have reached another milestone in the Morris household. August 3rd marked the beginning of the school year for my little man. Like his mother, he has thoroughly enjoyed school so far. Unfortunately for him, my poor baby also inherited the talkative gene from me. I'm sure his teachers wish he hadn't.

The look on his face in the second picture is priceless. You know he is wondering what in the world mommy is doing taking a picture of him brushing his teeth.
I could have put these next two pictures into a diptych as I did above but I just couldn't do that. You just have to experience that little grinning mug in all of it's glory.
How are these for his 6 year old pictures, Mom?
Like clockwork, every year on the first day of school, my sister and I stood dutifully in front of the kitchen door. My mother, who was camera illiterate, would struggle to take a picture of us and not the ceiling before we headed of to school.

As a dutiful mother, I have carried on this tradition. As you can see here.

Funny, it doesn't look like he's gotten any taller, but in reality, he's grown about 2 inches since last year. That is, according to the marks on the wall.
Here he is showing off his Spiderman lunchbox. Last year, I had promised him superhero patches for his bookbag but never delivered on that promise because I discovered that they were next to impossible to find (only on the internet) and expensive.

This year, I bought some iron on paper specially made for bookbags (and washable to boot). Then I downloaded some really cool superhero logos and such and viola, Liam has the coolest bookbag in first grade. I'll have to show you pictures later.

I did the same thing for his lunchbox as he wanted a Spiderman lunchbox.
THIS IS MY FAVORITEST! I am blown away by how gorgeous he is in this picture with his little gummy smile.
On our way to class, we saw his buddy Austin. Aren't they the cutest?
Sadly, we've already had to tell the teacher not to sit them next to each other. {{rolling eyes and sighing}} He pulled his first stick of the year the day the teacher sat them together. The temptation was just too strong.

Side note: you can see pretty well in the above shots the majority of his logo filled backpack.
His other friend from the Kingdom Hall, La-Huana, is in his class again this year.
A man on a mission.

One look at his face each day is all it takes when I go to pick Liam up from school. As soon as I pull up, I know if it's been a good day or not.

What do you think, was it a good day?
First thing he wanted to do was call everyone to tell them about his day.

Here he is on the phone telling his Uncle Lee, "I'm a first grader now!"
I have no idea what is up with his expression in the last image. He is such an expressive little guy.

As I type this, he is sitting next to me with a fat lip and a bruised cheek.

!?!?!

On our way to school this morning, we had a little mishap where mommy had to stop too quickly in the school parking lot. Many tears and a near heart attack later, I decided to keep Liam home today. With this nasty cold on top of this morning's adventures, I decided I couldn't make him endure school today. Yep, that's right, second week of school and he's already gotten a cold. Gotta love that petri dish of germs called school.
