Catching Up :: Photography Charleston South Carolina

A year ago this March my brother-in-law and sister-in-law moved to Charleston, Georgia from New York. I was thrilled to have them closer to us and even more thrilled that they were moving to a city that Spencer and I absolutely LOVE.

Due to this love, we have been to visit several times since they moved there and I have gotten some of my favorite "non-people" images on these trips.

The first time we fell in love with Charleston, our two year anniversary trip. Spencer and I rented bikes and loved every minute of the 3 hours we rode around Charleston. The best of times.

Some of my favorite people shots as well. I love shots of strangers on the beach.

I thought it was so cute this shot of the dad taking a picture of his wife and son.

My beautiful sister-in-law.

I don't put a lot extra textures or frames on many of my images but this one below, just seemed to fit.
Photobucket
This one I ab-so-fabulistically love of the two of them.

Taking in the night life of Charleston. I have to say there were as many stumbling drunk people in downtown Charleston as I remember there being on Bourbon Street when I was there many moons ago.

Lowlight shooting at it's finest my friends. ;)

My Heart

This is my most favoritest image of Liam and I. It has yet to be replaced.
Photobucket
The story: Liam was 2 1/2 days old and still in the NICU. He had just finished screaming bloody murder as I had just unsuccessfully attempted to feed him for the first time since the nurses failed to inform me that I could have tried the day he was born (being naive is painful sometimes). The episode ended in him falling asleep exhausted in my arms and the look on my face is pure despair that I cannot provide for my sweet baby.

Not knowing the story, most think it just a sweet picture. For me, this picture fully conveys all I was feeling and experiencing at that time as a new mother. Clearly I remember that first rocky week of his life and my anxiety at having to leave him in the hospital and then the unbridled joy when I finally got to take him home and my life forever being changed and enriched by being his mother.

Preview :: Bridal Shoot :: Atlanta Photog Meetups

Have you ever stopped and wondered how in the world did I start thinking about this? Then you retrace your thoughts back to square one and sit there shaking your head at how completely random your thought process is?

Sometimes events in your life can work in a similar vein. I can not even begin to tell you how I started reading half of the blogs that I do. One link led to another link that led to another is usually how it goes.

One such blog is that of Chris and Allie Bartelski of "the reason". One day I found myself on their blog viewing this post and I was in love so I commented on it to tell them so. To my surprise, I got a response from Allie that same day thanking me for checking them out.

Due to the amazingness of their photography that I admired, the inevitable internet stalking began, and I became Facebook friends with Allie as well. Then she let me know about this group they started on Facebook for the express purpose of local area photographers meeting up and talking and networking and all that good stuff. Awesome, awesome, awesome. I love meeting new photographers and picking their brains, as morbid as that expression is.

Sooooo, long story short, we had one such meeting this Tuesday up in Atlanta and it was arranged not only to meet new photographers but to have a kick butt "trash the dress" shoot. Needless to say it was {{say it with me now}} AWESOME!

Despite the freezing temperatures, the models were real troopers and we all had a blast. I haven't had the chance to work on too many but I wanted to get a few up kind of as a preview so I picked several.

This first picture is not really what I would consider my style as much but it stood out to me and I had to add it in the preview. I think it's Angela's piercing gaze.
Photobucket
Photographing Michelle made me realize all over again that I wish I had red hair and freckles. {{sigh}}
Photobucket
I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorites.
Photobucket
The lens flare was not always my friend on this photo shoot but in this case, I think I just might forgive it.
Photobucket
I really am endeavoring to get better about blogging so look out for some more posts coming soon. Until then. . .

Our Snow Day :: Covington Georgia

I meant to have these images up before the end of the evening, but hey, better late than never.

When I found out that Liam was off for a snow day I was skeptical of the actuality of snow. We got to fall asleep for a nap together to the sight of snow and when Spencer got home from work he went in to wake up Liam and the next series of images are of Liam waking up and seeing that the snow had actually accumulated on the ground.

Photobucket

The excitement led to Spencer and Liam having a fun tickling and throwing session on the bed.
Photobucket
I love my boys.
Photobucket
This is what Spencer referred to as the bald spot in our yard.
Photobucket
As beautiful as the accumulation was at this point it got so much more beautiful.
Photobucket

Photobucket
Liam's first venture out into the snowy yard.
Photobucket
Liam wanted to make footprints.
Photobucket
Spencer got to take control of the camera for a bit and got some shots of me enjoying the snow.
Photobucket
And then we switched. Isn't it funny how adults turn into kids around snow?
Photobucket

Photobucket
Liam's pure excitement over the snow was very contagious and we all had a blast. Reminds me of the line from a Dave Matthew's song "I love you oh so well. Like a kid loves candy or fresh snow."
Photobucket
A few recent blog posts inspired me to look at my out of focus images before discarding them to see what I might be missing. In the case of the shot below, I am glad that I did.
Photobucket
Spencer was very proud of catching my "snow booger".
Photobucket
The next are just a series of images that either Spencer and I took that to me are just hauntingly beautiful. I honestly do not know if I would love snow as much if I was around it all the time, but I do. Watching it fall and transform the most ordinary things into something beautiful is completely mesmerizing to me.

Once we were inside and Liam was sitting at the kitchen table waiting to drink his hot chocolate, I noticed the snowflakes he and I had made hanging up and thought how cute it would be to capture our art imitating life. ;)
